Edward A. Laing Dies, President of News Firm (Picture to the Right) Edward A. Laing of 951 Park Ave., president of the Plainfield News Co., died early today (Aug. 9, 1951) at Muhlenberg Hospital where he had been a patient since July 27. He was 76. He was born in Plainfield, son of the late Voorhees and Sarah Laing, and had lived here all his life. Prior to forming the Plainfield News Co., distributors of newspapers newspapers and magazines, Mr. Laing owned and operated Laing's Sta- Sta- War Victim Laid to Rest Funeral services for the first Plainfield man to be killed in the Korean war were conducted yesterday yesterday in the Higgins "Home for Funerals." The dead soldier is Army Recruit Raymond A. Habourne, 21, of 426 E. Front St., killed in action last year. The service was conducted by tionery Store at 149-151 149-151 149-151 W. Front St. An ardent devotee of sports, Mr. Laing preferred the outdoor games of baseball, football and hockey. He was a member of Trinity Reformed Reformed Church, Anchor Lodge 149, and AM; Salaam Temple, AAONMS, Newark; Plainfield Forest Forest 84, T.C.L., and Franklin Council, Council, Jr. O.U.A.M. He was a life member of New Jersey Consistory, SPRS, Valley of Jersey City, and of Plainfield Lodge 885, B.P.O.E. Surviving are his widow, Bertha Brewer Laing; two daughters, Miss Jeanne E. Laing, at home, and Mrs. Stanley E. vom Lehn of Fanwood; one sister, Miss Ethel M. Laing, 426 E. Front St., and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be held in Memorial Funeral Home Saturday at 3 p.m. The Rev. Dr. Herbert K. England of Dunellen will officiate. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery.
