OPEN HOUSE Union College in Cranford will hold adult open houses tomorrow at 10 a.m. and Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. PREPARATORY COURSES A course to prepare prospective students to take the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and College Level Examination Program (CLEP) lest will be offered this winter by Union College. The preparation course for the SAT will be conducted at New Providence High School on eight consecutive Tuesdays from 7 p.m.

REGISTRATION Registration for Union College's In Space heater Franklin Township police have tentatively identified an electric space heater as the cause of Friday's fire in which a 3-year-old boy was killed.

Meanwhile, Plainfield police and fire officials are still investigating a fire later that same day which resulted in the death of a 38-year-old man. Franklin police this morning said they believe the space heater ignited window curtains, causing the blaze Friday morning at 79 Lafayette Ave. in the Somerset section. The fire, which killed Raymar Scurry of Highland Park, is still under investigation by Detective Sgt. Eugene Dad held in daughter's death NEW YORK The results of ballistics tMti and chemical analysis will determine whether Robert Hastings Lounsbury, 58, a prominent lawyer active la the Democratic party in New York itate, took his own life.

Mr. Lounsbury, a former CIA employee who attended Plainfield, N.J., public schools, was found shot to death in his apartment on the East Side of Manhattan on Friday. An autopsy conducted Saturday by the New York City medical examiner's office Indicated that he died of a gunshot wound la the head. The ballistics tests were to be performed today. Mr.

Lounsbury's body was found by James Ham pares, a business partner with whom he shared the apartment at 244 E. 48th St. The victim, a "Who's Who" notable, was found with his hand tightly gripping a automatic. Mr. Lounsbury, who attracted support as a possible New York gubernatorial candidate in 1966 and 1974, was a graduate of Princeton University and Yale Law School.

Born in New York City, he was an Army veteran. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Orlando Lounsbury of Plainfield; a daughter, Anne L. of New York City; a son, Robert Jr. of Evanston, 111., and a sister, Karen Coles of Green Brook, N.J.

He was a member of the New York City Musicians Union Local 802 and the Plainfield Musicians Union Local 746. A Navy veteran of World War II, he was a communicant of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in North Plainfield. He is survived by his mother, Marion Schirripa of North Plainfield; two sisters, Elnora Pilato of North Plainfield and Mary Scarinci of Toms River, and two brothers, Rocco and Albert Schirripa, both of North Plainfield. Walter Fagan Sr. PLAINFIELD Walter Fagan 67, of 126 Hillcrest Ave. died yesterday (Jan. 7, 1979) at Muhlenberg Hospital. Born in Rollins, he lived in West-field and Plainfield for 51 years.

Mr. Fagan was employed by the National Gypsum Co. of Garwood as a foreman until 1973, when he joined Grico's Maintenance Co. of Plainfield. He was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church, Plainfield.

Surviving are his wife, Virginia; four sons, Walter of Eino, John of Westfield, Richard C. at home and Joseph of Sacramento, eight daughters, Elnora Coleman of Baltimore, Mary Newton of Scotch Plains, Louisa Tumstall of Irvington, Constance Myrick and Annie Fagan, both of Westfield, Hattie Johnson, Barbara Ann Fagan and Victoria Jones, all of Plainfield; five brothers, James of Plainfield, Burdis and Albert, both of Arlington, Lawrence of Summit and Shelton of Westfield; a sister, Hattie Monroe of Summit, 33 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. 8, 1979) at Muhlenberg Hospital in Plainfield. Born in Asbury, she had been a resident of South Bound Brook for 49 years. Mrs. Goble was the widow of James W. Goble who died in 1959.

Surviving are two sons, Walter Petersen of Middlesex and James Goble of York, two daughters, Ruth Dilts of Washington and Mary Krehely with whom she lived; a sister, Gladys VanNorman of Hampton; 14 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Arrangements are by the Taggart-Chamberlain Funeral Home in Bound Brook. Bernardino Grillo PLAINFIELD Bernardino Grillo, 85, of George Street died Saturday (Jan. 6, 1979) at Muhlenberg Hospital. Born in Italy, he was a Plainfield resident for 55 years.

Mr. Grillo was a maintenance man for Walter Scott of Plainfield before retiring in 1958.. He was a communicant of St. Bernard's Church. He is survived by his wife, Angelina Gentile Grillo; three daughters, Mary Cirgliano of South Plainfield, Sophie Sorigliano of Plainfield, and Angie Grillo at home; five sons, Michael Grillo of Plainfield, John and Anthony Grillo of North Plainfield, Rudy Grillo of Edison, and Ben Grillo of Cranford; 18 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Pierce was a self-employed electrician in the Manville area and was an Army veteran of the Korean conflict. Born in Jersey City, he was a resident of Manville since 1957. His wife, Elizabeth, died in December He is survived by a son, Daniel of Mount Zion, three daughters, Maureen of Quakertown, Patricia of North Plainfield and Janet of Browns Mills; two sisters, Eleanor Bez of Tenafly and Florence Murphy of Paramus, and two brothers, Aloysius of Iselin and William of Buffalo, N.Y. Bill Goodspeed SAN ANTONIO, Texas (AP) Bill Goodspeed, a veteran award-winning photographer for the San Antonio Express-News, died yesterday. He was 71. WESTFIELD Dr. Jessie D. Read, 75, of 519 Lenox Drive, the first woman doctor to be certified in obitetrici and gynecology in New Jersey, died suddenly on Dec.

29, 1978, in a Denver hospital while on vacation. Dr. Read was awarded the Golden Merit Award last spring by the N.J. State Medical Society for 50 years service as a physician. Dr.

Read received another honor in 1966 when she was named Woman of the Year in Medicine by the New Jersey branch of the American Medical Women's Association. Most recently, she was a consultant in obstetrics and gynecology at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston. She was also on the Emeritus Staff at Overlook Hospital in Summit. A Westfield resident and practitioner for 44 years, Dr.

Read was born in Florence, in 1903. Her parents were among the first settlers of Fremont County in Colorado. Dr. Read received a B.A degree from Denver University in 1925. She received her medical degree at the Long Island College of Medicine in 1928.

Steven D. Adam, 1 0, Warren fifth-grader WARREN Steven David Adam, 10, of 4 Flintlock Drive, a fifth-grader at the Mount Horeb Elementary School, died Friday (Jan. 5, 1979) at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville after an illness. Born in Somerville, he was a resident of Warren for four years, residing formerly in Bridgewater. He was a member of the Millington Baptist Church and church's Boys' Brigades.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. David Adam; two brothers, Brian and Douglas, both at home, his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Adam, of Millington, and his maternal grandparents, Mr.

Rasnak, 67, of 520 E. High a retired railroad employee, died Saturday (Jan. 6, 1979), at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville. Born in Bound Brook, he had resided in Piscataway. Mr.

Rasnak was employed as a freight clerk with the Jersey Central Railroad for 45 years, retiring five years ago. He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Bound Brook. He is survived by his wife, Isabella Glynn Rasnak, and a sister, Anna R. Slater of Piscataway.

Arrangements are by the Conroy Funeral Home in Bound Brook. Josephine N. Testa MIDDLESEX Josephine Nittoli Testa, 84. of Green Brook Road died Saturday (Jan. 6, 1979) at Muhlenberg Hospital in Plainfield.

Born in Italy, Mrs. Testa lived iri Plain-field for 40 years before moving to Middlesex 10 years ago. She was a communicant of St. Bernard's Church in Plainfield. Her husband, Frank, died in 1959.

She is survived by a son, Vincent Nittoli, with whom she lived; a brother and sister, Italo and Teresa Durso, both of Italy; six grandchildren, and seven great-granchildren. 7, 1979) at the Ash Brook Nursing Home. Born in Whitesbog, she lived in Philadelphia and Camden before moving to Scotch Plains in 1934. Hazel H.Crowe WESTFIELD Hazel Hartnett Crowe, 91, of 715 Westfield Ave. died Friday (Jan. 5, 1979) at the Abbott Manor in Plainfield after a long illness. Born in Chicago, she was a resident of Westifield for 51 years. Mrs.

Crowe was a communicant of the Holy Trinity Church. She is survived by her husband, John J. Crowe, and a sister, Annabelle Hartnett of Hobucken, N.C. Arrangements are by the Dooley Colonial Home of Westfield. Diedrich N.Vollers BRANCHBURG Diedrich N.

Vollers 87, of 3311 Route 22 died Saturday (Jan. 6, 1979) at the Somerset Medical Center, Somerville. Born in Spaden, Germany, he lived in Branchburg since 1929, and was a retired His wife, Herta, died in 1974. He is survived by a son, Herbert D. Vollers of North Branch, and four grandchildren.

(AP) Karl Kuerner, whose dairy farm inspired more than 1,000 studies and several famous paintings by Andrew Wyeth, died Saturday at age 80. Campbell Funeral Chapel in New York City. H. Earle Davison, 77, ex-high school teacher FLEMINGTON H. Earle Davison, 77, died Friday (Jan. 1979) at his home at 59 Bonnell Street.

Born in Hightstown, he taught at Rider College until moving to Flemington in 1925. From that time until his retirement in 1967 Mr. Davison taught commerce and business courses at Flemington and Hunterdon Central High School. He was a charter member and past treasurer of the Flemington Kiwanis Club, a member of the Flemington Baptist Church and the N.J. Retired Teachers Association.

He had received a award for volunteer work at the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township. His wife, Myrtle, died in 1966. Mr. Davison is survived by a nephew, Donald D. Ingling of Surf City.

died yesterday (Jan. 7, 1979) at home. Born in Kettering, England, he lived in Dunellen since 1934, having immigrated in 1925. Mr. Goodman was employed in the shipping department of the former Art Color Printing Co.

of Dunellen for 15 years, retiring in 1967. A member of the Dunellen United Methodist Church, he also belonged to the Men's Prayer Fellowship and served as a lay preacher at the church. He is survived by his wife, Celeste A. Langdon Goodman; two sons, Robert of Middletown and John of Stony Brook, N.Y.; a daughter, Alexandra of Dunellen; a sister, M.J. Goodman of Kettering, England, nine grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

Funeral arrangements are by the Mun-dy Funeral Home, Dunellen. Ruby McArtor SOMERVILLE Ruby McArtor, 83, of 125 Lamington Road died Saturday (Jan. 6, 1979) at the Somerset Valley Nursing Home, Bridgwater. Mrs. McArtor was Dorn in Port William, Ohio.

She was a retired photographer, and was the third generation to own the McArtor photography studio in Somer-ville. She was a volunteer for the Somerset Medical Center and the American Cancer Society. Her husband, John died in 1946. She is survived by a son, John S. McArtor of Edgertpn, two daughters, Peg Ozzard of Martinsville and Kathryn Reddy of Somerville; two sisters, Mary Davidson and Martha Donley, both of Engiewood, 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Re-illey said the Fire Prevention Bureau has not completed its probe of the fire in a rooming house at 715 W. Seventh St. in which James Burton, a tenant, died. Burton suffered burns to his hands and head. A section of a mattress in the room was partially burned and had been pulled to the floor.

Fire officials said Friday night that there was no evidence of arson in the blaze. The dead girl's stepmother is held on $10,000 bail on a charge of child neglect. Police arrested William Bauries, 181 Lawrence and his wife Frances, 25, Saturday at St. Peter's Medical Center where a medical team brought the child, Damianne, who was pronounced dead on arrival. Middlesex County Prosecutor Richard Rebeck said Mrs.

Bauries called for help while her husband was at work, then called her husband who met her at the hospital. Bail may change at a formal arraignment this morning, Reneck said.
