Scarpone, World War II veteran Donald Estey, 87, chemical engineer FLEMINGTON Donald Estey, 87, died on Monday (March 1, 2004) at Hunterdon Care Center inFlemington. Born in Canada, he lived in the Madison, Convent Station area for many years. He was a 1940 graduate of Queens University, Kingston, Ontario, with a chemical engineering degree. He worked as a chemical engineer at American Cyanamid for 30 years.

Mr. Estey was a deacon at Madison Presbyterian Church, a past president of the former Old Guard of Madison, was active at Madison Golf Club and loved to play bridge. He was the loving husband of Caroline (nee Williams) Estey. Donald is also survived by his daughters, Barbara Jean Stewart of Branchburg and Suzanne Estey Gitomer and her husband, Drew, of Flemington; his brothers, Henry Estey and Robert Estey, and his sisters, Marion Burnham, all of Canada; and his grandchildren, Andrew Stewart of Clifton, and Madeline and Ross Gitomer of Flemington. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m.

Thursday at Madison Presbyterian Church, Green Avenue, Madison, followed by interment at Hanover Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Burroughs, Kohr Dangler Funeral Home, 106 Main Madison. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to Mt.

Allison University, Sackville, New Brunswick, Canada. Ronald A. Gordon, retired bus driver PLAINFIELD Ronald A. Gordon, 61, died Saturday (Feb. 28, 2004) at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield.

Born in Plainfield, he was a lifelong city resident. Mr. Gordon was a bus driver for 35 years for NJ Transit in Maplewood. He was retired. He previously was employed by the Plainfield Board of Education and the Ford Motor Co.

in Edison. He was a member of the NJ Transit Softball team, and was an artist, loving to draw. Surviving are three sons, Gregory Gordon of Clearwater, and Jeffrey and Mark Gordon, both of Plainfield; three daughters, Sharel Gordon-Love of Bridgeport, and Rhonda Gordon and Danielle Farmer-Gordon, both of Plainfield; a sister, Patricia Gordon-Walls of Plainfield; two brothers, Bruce Gordon of Plainfield and Alfred Gordon of North Plainfield; two stepdaughters, Tracey Farmer-Boston and Cassandra Ger-maine, both of Plainfield; a stepson, James Farmer of Tracy, a devoted friend, Patricia Long of Plainfield; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the House of Prayer, 641 S.

Second Plainfield. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Judkins Colonial Home, Plainfield. SOMERVILLE Thomas A. Scarpone, 81, died Monday (March 1, 2004) at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville.

Born in Trenton on May 16, 1922, he was the son of the late Daniel and Mildred Scarpone. He was a lifelong resident of Raritan. Thomas worked most of his life as a machinist, working for various companies and retiring in 1995. He most recently was employed (since 1997) at Kings Supermarket in Whitehouse as head of the demonstration department. He was a veteran of the United States Army Medical Corps during World War II, stationed in the Pacific.

He served as past commander of the VFW Post 1748 and the American Legion Post 280 and was a member of the Somerville Knights of Columbus (fourth degree) and Ann's Roman Catholic Church, where he was past president of the church's Holy Name Society. Thomas enjoyed working in the community, landscaping his yard with flowers, and he also loved animals, especially his two cats, Cleo and Sam. It was his vision to have the Veteran Memorial in front of the Raritan Bor- ough Hall. He originated the idea, proposed it to the town council and raised the funds from contributions from the people of Raritan, VFW Post 1748 and American Legion 280. His dedication and input to the project was ongoing until its completion.

Thomas was a loving and devoted man who will be missed by all. He is predeceased by his wife, Malinda, who died in 1990; three brothers, Connie, Rocco (who was killed in World War II) and Daniel; and a sister, Catherine Niles. Surviving are his loving daughter, Deborah M. Scarpone of Raritan; two devoted sisters, Phyllis Scarpone of Raritan and Violet Nikas of Arizona; a nephew, Nikolas Nikas; many great nieces and nephews; a godson; and many kind friends. Visitation with prayers will begin at 8 a.m.

Thursday at the Bruce C. VanArsdale Funeral Home, 101 N. Gaston Ave. in Somerville. Visitation will be followed by a 9 a.m.

funeral Mass at St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church in Raritan. Interment will be in Fern Knoll Cemetery in Dallas, Pa. Marion Rabinowitz, social worker NEWTON, Mass. Marion Rabinowitz, 93, died on Monday (March 1, 2004) at the Chetwyn-de Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Newton, Mass.

She was born in Mt. Vernon, N.Y., grew up in West Orange and lived in North Plainfield before moving to Newton, 15 years ago. Prior to retiring, Mrs. Rabinowitz worked as a social worker at a settlement house in the Hells Kitchen area of New York City. She was a founding member and past president of the League of Women Voters in North Plainfield, and also was a member of Temple Sholom in Plainfield.

She was predeceased by her husband, Nathan Rabinowitz, in 1975. She is survived by two sons, William Lewis Robbins and his wife, Diane of Newton, and Alan Rudolph Robbins and his wife, Melna of Winchester, and three grandchildren, Katherine, Sarah and Nathan Robbins. A graveside service will be conducted at noon Thursday at Hebrew Cemetery in South Plainfield with Rabbi Joel Abra-ham officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Higgins Home for Funerals, 209 W. 8th Plainfield.

Mildred Dowdell, 48, devoted mother PLAINFIELD Mildred "Diane" Dowdell, 48, of Plainfield (formerly of Osage, W. Va.) passed away on Sunday (Feb. 29, 2004). She was the beloved daughter of the late Ollice and Minerva Dowdell of Osage, W. mother of Stephanie Dowdell and grandmother of Teekah Dowdell of Muncie, sister of her most faithful caregiver Wanda Younger of Plainfield, Patricia Dowdell of Newark; M.

Ann Dowdell of Irvington, Elizabeth McBride (deceased), and Calvin Dowdell (deceased); sister-in-law of Wilford Younger of Plain-field and James McBride of Newark; a host of nieces and nephews and many friends. Paterek, 85, World SOMERVILLE Peter E. Paterek, 85, died on Tuesday (March 2, 2004) at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville. Born in Elizabeth, he lived in Somerville most of his life. Mr. Paterek owned and operated P.E.

Paterek Electrical Contractor in Somerville for more than 60 years. A World War II veteran of the Army Air Corps, he was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Somerville. He was predeceased by his wife, Tina. Surviving are his niece and PRINCETON -George E. Banghart, 76, died Monday (March 1, 2004) at home.

He was born on Dec. 9, 1927, in Washington, N.J., to the late George Banghart and Marie Buffy Banghart. He lived in Port Murray and High Bridge before moving to Princeton a short time ago. Mr. Banghart was a self-employed independent truck driver, and also was involved in farming operations in Warren and Hunterdon counties.

He was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Sherrie Banghart, in 1979. Rina, 76, died Sunday (Feb. 29, 2004) at his residence. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he resided there before moving to Raritan 39 years ago. Mr. Rina served an enlistment with the U.S.

Navy. Rosario was a foreman with Johns-Manville Research Corp. for 32 years until retiring in 1996 and then was employed with the Bridgewater Board of Education as a maintenance supervisor for six years. Mr. Rina was a communicant of St.

Ann's Roman Catholic Church in Raritan. He was also a member of the VFW Sante Moretti Post No. 1748, American Legion of Somerville Post No. 12, and the Johns-Manville Quarter Century Club. Sal enjoyed reading, playing cards, scratch-offs and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Surviving are his loving wife of 47 years, Mary (Magnotta) Rina; his dear daughters, Margie Rina of Branchburg and Susan Keenan and son-in-law, John, of Annandale; grandchildren, Christopher Michael Hayes and Caitlyn, Alyssa and John Keenan; brother, Gasper Rina and sister-in-law, Rose, of Mass-apequa, Long Island; sisters, Ann Lombardo of Bath, Mary DeGhetto and brother-in-law, Mario, of Bound Brook and Rose Waterman of Bath, Pa. and several nieces and nephews.
