NEWS WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 10, 2007 C-3 MORE OBITUARIES, PAGE C-4 Mary 'Vic' Griswold, active in community PLAINFIELD Mary "Vic" Griswold passed away peacefully in her sleep Tuesday (Oct. 9, 2007) at her home in Plainfield. Mary Victoria Griswold was born May 3, 1910 in Plainfield, the daughter of Helen Coburn and Horace Nathaniel Stevens. She attend the Hartridge School and graduated from Smith College in 1932, spending her junior years abroad studying at the Sorbonne in Paris. After graduation she worked as a lab technician at the New York Hospital before marrying Dr.

Merton L. Griswold in 1937. Her interests included pottery, gardening and bird watching. She was an active member of the Watchung Nature Club and traveled with her husband all over the world to observe wildlife on Audubon-sponsored trips to Africa, Central America, Canada and Antarctica, to name a few. She was a lifelong member of the First Unitarian Society of Plainfield.

She also volunteered at the Interfaith Council for or the Homeless (now Home First), neighborhood House, the Golden 1 Age Club, Friends of the Library, Literacy Volunteers of America and most recently as honorary chairman for the Plainfield Library Capital Fund Drive. She also enjoyed reading and was a member of the Shakespeare Club for many years. She will be remembered for her generosity of spirit; her down-to-earth common sense; her love of nature; her ability to take pleasure in small things; her profound strength of character and, not least, her laughter. Surviving are her children, Ann of London, England, Peter and his wife, Joanne, of Nutley and Vicky of Plainfield; her grandchildren, Keith and Germaine; her Stevens nieces and nephew; her daughters in spirit, Yuriko Nakashima, Lyn Bonde and Alison Matthews, her helpers, Prudence Joseph, Judette Aubourg, Mae Chisolm, Chris Langston and Ann Wilson; and many, many loving hearts. Memorial services will begin noon Saturday at First Unitarian Society, 724 Park Plainfield.

Mary C. (Woj- ciehowski) Penarczyk, 93, entered into eternal rest Monday (Oct. 8, 2007) at her son's residence, with her loving family by her side. Born in Carnegie, a daughter of the late Stefan and Valentina (Wawzyniak) Wojciehowski, she had lived in Manville for 50 years. Mary had been at the home of her son for the past two months, and for the past five and a half years was a resident of Morris Hall St.

Mary's in Lawrenceville. Mary was a devoted Catholic, having been a communicant of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Manville, where she served as an organist and choir director for many years. She also had been president of its Rosary Society. Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by her devoted husband, Joseph B. Penarczyk, who passed away July 20, 2001; and her three brothers, Chester, Stanley and Rev.

Msgr. Thaddeus Wojciehowski. Mary is survived by her loving son and daughter-in-law, Joseph G. and Mary K. Penarczyk, whom she had lived with; a dear sister, Stephanie Castles of Allentown; and her beloved grandchildren, Matthew J.

Penarczyk, Anne C. PenarczykSchiff and Sara E. Penarczyk. She also leaves behind two great-grandchildren, Elle Caroline and Joseph Paul Penarczyk. Funeral services will begin noon Friday from Fucillo Warren Funeral Home, 205 S.

Main Manville, followed by a 12:30 p.m. funeral liturgy at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Manville, with her nephew, Rev. Patrick Castles, pastor of St. John's Roman Catholic Church in Allentown, officiating. Mary will be laid to rest in the family plot at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Hillsborough.

Leary, retired painter WHITEHALL, Pa. Francis J. Leary, 92, died Friday (Oct.

5, 2007) at Fellowship Manor in Whitehall, Pa. He was born in Chester on Oct. 12, 1914, a son of the late Francis and Hazel Lunger Leary. He had resided in Far Hills for many years and in Bedminster for nine years before moving to Allentown, in 2001 and to Whitehall, years ago. Mr.

Leary was a painter employed by Nelson Wortman Painting and Decorating of Far Hills for 50 years, retiring 20 years ago. He was a member of the Fox Hollow Country Club in North Branch. Mr. Leary was predeceased by his wife, Gladys Smith Leary, who died in 1990; and by his companion of 10 years, Dorothy Kuhnow, who died in April 2007. He is survived by his son, Francis T.

Leary of Allentown, a daughter, Patricia Koubek of Southern Pines, N.C.; three grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Layton Funeral Home, 475 Main Bedminster. Interment will follow at Bedminster Reformed Church Cemetery. Saturday at the funeral home. Eleanor Fiorentino, retired secretary BOUND BROOK Eleanor Fiorentino, 86, died Monday (Oct. 8, 2007) at Somerset Medical Center, Somerville. The daughter of the late Anthony J. and Katherine (D'Ghetto) Capano Mrs.

Fiorentino was a lifelong resident of Bound Brook. She was a secretary at Asbestos Erector Company, Bound Brook, for 25 years, retiring in 1959. She was a communicant of St. Joseph Church, Bound Brook. Mrs.

Fiorentino was predeceased by her brother, Anthony J. Capano in She is survived by her husband, Pat, of Bound Brook and her son, Lance, Bound Brook. George P. Fazan World War lIl veteran SOMERVILLE George P. Fazan 85, died Monday (Oct. 8, 2007) at Somerset Medical Center, Somerville. George was born in Dunellen, Aug.

22, 1922, a son of the late Elizabeth and Michael Fazan. He resided in Dunellen before moving to Somerville in 1949. He was employed as a maintenance worker for Somerville Board of Education for more than 27 years, retiring in 1986. He was a veteran of the U.S. serving during World War II.

George was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church in Somerville, a member of American Legion Post 12, the VFW Post 2290 and the Knights of Columbus in Dunellen. George was a carpenter by trade and a very talented craftsman who especially enjoyed woodworking. He was husband, father and grandfather and will be sadly missed by his family and friends. His siblings, Stephen, Anna, Michael and Mary Raptaski, predeceased him. Surviving are his devoted wife of 62 years, Nickie Yanetta; his children, Stephen and his Mary, George Jr.

Kenneth Roger Buck beloved by family and friends HILLSBOROUGH Kenneth Roger Buck 46, lost his courageous battle with ALS, Lou Gehrig's Disease, on Saturday (Oct.

6, 2007) at home surrounded by his loving family. Ken had spent the last year with this illness on his terms, with class and dignity. He was the son of Gail and Roger Buck of Hillsborough, where they lived most of his life. Ken was a 1979 graduate of Hillsborough High School. Ken worked as a field supervisor for Veolia Environmental Services of Flanders for 18 years, until October 2006.

Steven 'Steve' Worowski, musician BOUND BROOK Steven "Steve" Worowski, 55, of Bound Brook, died Tuesday (Oct. 9, 2007) at Bristol Manor Nursing Home in Rochelle Park. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Steven was a lifelong resident of Middlesex before moving to Bound Brook two years ago. Steven was first and foremost a musician. He was a founding member and lead singer of The Movers Band.

In his 43-year career, he had been in many bands and duos, and had performed solo. His love and vast knowledge of music, particularly jazz, blues and rock and roll, was leg. endary among his friends and family. As well as writing many of his own songs, Steve was also a writer and poet. He wrote record reviews for music magazines and had his poetry published in local anthologies.

Self-employed as a vintage record dealer, he was known to many in collector's circles as "The Record Man." Steven volunteered for many years at the biannual Somerset Hills Visiting Nurse Rummage Carolann Mary Varga, Midland School teacher HILLSBOROUGH Carolann Mary Varga, 55, died Saturday (Oct. 6, 2007) at home. Carolann was born in New Brunswick and was a lifelong resident of Hillsborough. She was a teacher at Midland School in Branchburg for 34 years. Carolann loved books, recipes and vacationing.

Surviving are her husband, Roger; her children, Sara Williams and her husband, Eric, Kathleen Varga and Brandon Varga, all of Hillsborough and Craig Jones and his wife, Jaime, of Williamstown; her mother, Ella Bezek of Hillsborough; her brother, John Bezek and his wife, Teresa, of Raritan; her sister, Diane Bezek of Bound Brook; and her grandchildren, Lauren, Madelyn and Erin. A Mass will be said 11:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Joseph's Church, Hillsborough. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Hillsborough Funeral Home, 796 Route 206, Hillsborough. He leaves behind many friends and co-workers whose lives he had touched deeply. Ken is survived by his dear wife of one year, Brenda Petti of Hillsborough; his children, Ken Buck Jr.

of Hillsborough and Samantha Jane Buck of Wantage; and by his stepchildren, Garrett, Jeff and Ali Lombardi. A celebration of Ken's life will be held 6 p.m. Thursday at North Branch Reformed Church, Route 28, North Branch. Arrangements are under the direction of Ketusky Funeral Home, 1310 Brooks Manville. He is survived by his sister, Doris Bach of Hillsborough; nieces, Laura, Elayne and Julie Schneebacher, and many close friends. Steven is also survived by his former wife, Laura Amitrano of Florida. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday at Sheenan Funeral Home, 233 Dunellen Dunellen.

There will be a short service following the funeral home service, at Somerset Hills Memorial Park in Basking Ridge. The viewing will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations made in Steven's name may be sent to the American Cancer Society, Memorial Program, New Jersey Division Middlesex Unit, 846 Main Fords, NJ 08863.

Anthony 'Tony' Gattone, lifelong resident RARITAN Anthony "Tony" Gattone, 95, died peacefully Sunday (Oct. 7, 2007) at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville. Tony was born in Raritan, Aug. 6, 1912, the son of the late Maria and Felicio Gattone. He was a lifelong resident of Raritan.

Tony was first employed for Red Fern Lace in Raritan and then for Johns-Manville for more than 25 years, retiring in 1975. He was a communicant of St. Ann Roman Catholic Church in Raritan. He was a member of St. Rocco's and the Raritan Senior's Club.

Tony was an avid New York Yankees fan and will be sadly missed by his family and friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary, who died in 1978; and his sister, Carmela Silva, whom he sincerely cherished. Surviving are his several nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephew. Prayers will be said 8:30 a.m. Thursday at Bruce C.
