She was the widow of Peter a for- Joseph Kaminski Long Hercules Worker mer director of the School of Chemistry and a former chairman of the chemistry department at Rutgers University.

Mrs. van der Meulen was born in Catatonk, She was a member of the Highland Park Reformed Church, the Jersey blue Chapter of the Daughters of trie American Revolution, and the Middlesex General Hospital Aid Association in New Brunswick. Surviving are a son, William A. of Vestal, N.Y.; a daughter, Mrs. David A.

Davis of New Brunswick, and one grandchild. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Quackenboss Funeral Home, 156 Livingston New Brunswick, with the Rev. Milton J. Hoffman officiating.

Burial will be private. John C. Houtenville, Long of Plainsboro PLAINSBORO-John C. Houtenville, 83, of 9 Maple Ave. died yesterday at Merwick Nursing Home, Princeton.

Mr. Houtenville was born in Trenton and had resided in Plainsboro for 55 years. He retired in 1956 as a foreman from Walker-Gordon Laboratory after 40 years as an employe. A member of the Princeton Presbyterian Church and secretary-treasurer of the Junior Order of United American Mechanics of Plainsboro, he also belonged to Apollo Lodge 156, AM, of Cranbury, and was a life member of Crescent Temple of Trenton. Mr.

Houtenville also belonged to the Princeton Shrine Club and Pioneer Grange of South Brunswick. Husband of the late Alice, he is survived by a son, Raymond E. of Plainsboro; two grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m.-Tuesday at A.S. Cole Funeral Home, N.

Marian Sibley Talbot, 56, of Spartan Village died Friday at Waison Army Hospital. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Mrs. Talbot had resided in East Brunswick for 14 years before moving to Wrightstown three years ago. She was a former member of the South Old Bridge Fire Co. Auxiliary.

Surviving are her husband, James a daughter, Mrs. Lucille A. Brush of Spotswood; a brother, Frank of Hicksville, N.Y., and three grandchildren. will be at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Eckman Funeral Home, 475 Main Spots-wood, followed by a 9 o'clock mass at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Spots-wood.

Burial will be in St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold. William B. Medell, Of New Brunswick William B. Medell, 67, of 60 Suydam St.

died yesterday at Middlesex General Hospital. He was the husband of the former Anna S. Warnsdorfer. Born in Denver, Mr. Medell retired in 1965 as a formula supervisor after 38 years at Mizzy, in New York City.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Irvin V. of South Brunswick, and Roger William of Edison; a daughter, Mrs. Priscilla Sliwka of New Brunswick, and nine grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Quackenboss Funeral Home, 156 Livingston with the Rev.

Henry Austin officiating. Burial will be in Van Liew Cemetery, North Brunswick. SOUTH RIVER-Joseph J. Kaminiski Sr. died yesterday at his home, 3 Morningside Ave.

Born in Sayreville, he was the son of the late Maciej and Jadwija Kaminski. He had resided here most of his life. Mr. Kaminski was a communicant of St. Mary's Church.

Employed at Hercules Inc. for 27 years, he retired four years ago as a chemical operator. He was president of the company's 25-Year Club. Mr. Kaminski was a member of International Chemical Workers Union Local 271.

Husband of the former Katie Olszewski, he is also survived by two sons, Joseph J. Jr. of Sayreville and Edward of East Brunswick; four sisters, Mrs. Stella Worowski and Mrs. Sophia Balscewicz, both of Bound Brook Mrs.

Frances Gajea of Plainfield, and Mrs. Nellie Zdepka of South Amboy; a brother, Walter of Queens, N.Y., and five grandchildren. Services will be at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at Maliszewski Funeral Home, 218 Whitehead followed at 9 o'clock by a Mass of the Resurrection at St. Mary's Church.

Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Brunswick. Alfred Castano, 72, Union Carbide Retiree BOUND BROOK Alfred Castano, 72, of 119 Linden Ave. died Friday at Somerset Hospital, Somerville. Mr.

Castano had resided here far- 55 years and was a retired chief operator at Union Carbide Corp. He is survived by his wife, the former Rose Capolupo; three sons, Frank at home, Daniel of Kingston, and Alfred Jr. of Bridgewaler; and of snow which fell late Friday. Youngsters aren't the only ones enjoying the sleds. SLIDING AND SMILING Youngsterj from the South County area try out new sleds on the hills of Thompson Park in Jamesburg as they enjoy the five-to-eight-inches eight grandchildren.

Services will be at 9 a.m. tomorrow at Conroy Funeral Home, 21 E. 2nd followed by a 9:30 o'clock mass at St. Joseph's Church. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Piscataway.

Rutgers University's gain of more than 4,000 students over, last year places New Jersey's State University 22nd among the nation's largest colleges and universities. Last year Rutgers ranked 28th in total enrollment. This was disclosed in the an-, nual report prepared for "School and Society" by Dr. Garland G. Parker, vice provost for admissions and records at the University of Cincinnati.

The report covers the 30 largest colleges and universities in the country. Figures from 1,133 accredited colleges and universities show total enrollment of 6,048,496, an increase of more than 300,000 over last year. Rutgers also moved up from 28th to 24th in the number nf full-time students, with 22,432. This year's total enrollment is 35,256.
